Under the Bark

Under the Bark is inspired by the Arbutus, one of Vancouver Island’s most distinctive coastal trees. Its darkened outer bark curls and releases with time, revealing unexpected layers of cinnamon, salmon, cream and green beneath.

These shifting colours move through the shells like pigment held within living wood. Copper-gold passages trace the warmth and energy protected below the surface, where growth continues unseen and memory gathers within the grain.

The collection looks beyond the weathered exterior to the private life of the tree. At its heart are protection, continual renewal, and the quiet strength of what endures beneath what we first see.
